Marmot couple in Palisade Basin, High Sierra. Marmots are large ground squirrels and a common mammal seen in the Sierra. It often amazes me how these animals survive in what can be considered extremely harsh environment: high altitude, little vegetation, and a landscape covered in snow for much of the year.
