Seagull stopping in flight to drop its catch, Shoreline Lake, Mountain View, CA. Seagulls at Shoreline Lake are known for pulling up shellfish (muscles and clams) from the lake bottom and - unable to open them alone - flying several feet up in the air to drop them on the ground in the hopes the collision will open them up. Although, technically speaking, the seagull's wings are cut off on the top of the photograph, I felt this photograph better depicts the behavior than if the bird was in full frame.
