Cormorant - Fish Food

Double Crested Cormorant playing with breakfast, Shoreline Lake, Mountain View, California. On occasion, Shoreline Lake offers up schools of fish for the shorebirds to feed upon. The ripples in the water of this photo was caused by the many birds - Gulls, Cormorants, Egrets, and Terns - feasting upon the school of fish near the surface of the lake. This Cormorant, after being underwater for some time crested up out of the water, hoisting its fish into the air before swallowing its prey.
