Rae Lakes - Hiking the John Muir Trail

Fin Dome over Rae Lakes Basin, Kings Canyon National Park. Rae Lakes Basin is a popular destination for backpackers. While the John Muir Trail passes through the basin, so does a very popular loop trip in Kings Canyon know as the Rae Lakes Loop. After passing though the remote area between Mather and Pinchot pass the day before, the number of people I saw along this stretch of the John Muir Trail was striking.
